You Didn’t Need To Tell Me

Chorus

You didn’t need to tell me,

The lipstick smudged on your cheek was clear for all to see.

Didn’t need to tell me that you’d been out all night,

Your shirt was wrinkled and your hair was a sight.

Didn’t need to refuse to love me any more,

Your fingerprints were all over the handle of the door.

Chorus

Didn’t need to say goodbye, again,

Saw the car driving down the lane,

You didn’t need to tell me, that we’re through,

Your suitcase on the bed did that for you.

Chorus

You didn’t need to tell me, you’d forgotten my birthday,

The empty postbox did it for you, when you were away, today.

Didn’t need to tell me, that this was finally it,

There was no – one by the fireplace, where you usually sit.

Chorus

You didn’t need to tell me, that we can’t reconcile,

Hadn’t seen you smile for a while,

When I came near, you ran a mile,

There was no answer, when the telephone dialled.

Chorus

Didn’t need to tell me,

There was no glisten in your eye like there used to be,

No yellow ribbon was tied on the tree,

You didn’t need to tell me, I got the message, eventually.

Chorus … (repeat to fade).
